There is an enormous Leclerc supermarket approx 15 minutes drive from the house and a boulangerie for fresh bread and croissants an 8 minute drive away. For serious retail therapy the medieval old town of Tours is a joy to walk round and has an abundance of independent shops, the usual high end international outlets and 'Les Halles'. This is a covered food market with mouthwatering displays all under one roof.
Needless to say there are numerous watering holes and restaurants. Unusually for France there is a top-notch vegetarian restaurant in Tours. Poitiers, Angers and Orleans are all easily reachable.
Chateaux
The major chateaux of Amboise, Chenenceux, Villandry and Blois are just down the road liberally scattered along the Loire river. There are also the famous Loire vineyards to visit and the troglodytes dwellings.
Fishing
If you are feeling a little more langorous then a spot of fishing on the numerous pretty local rivers and lakes (Marcon 20 min drive) can be organised with a permit for your visit.
Walking
Immediately around the house walks and cycling offer pretty up hill down dale lanes with big skies but the enormous Foret de Bercy is certainly worth a visit.
Other activities
Kayak hire, horse riding, balloon and helicopter Tours of the chateaux are all available and best of all, there's the countryside…
